AA23 Moves Into Early Development as Allu Arjun and Lokesh Kanagaraj Reportedly Begin Trial Shoot in Mumbai

According to a report, the ongoing activity in Mumbai is part of the film's preliminary development and is not intended to produce footage for a first-look announcement. Instead, the team is reportedly conducting a trial shoot as preparations for the ambitious project continue.

Adding to the growing anticipation, the film's co-writer Rathna Kumar recently shared an update on the progress of the project. Speaking with Galatta Plus, he described AA23 as a genuine pan-Indian film, not because of its star cast or setting, but because its story carries international appeal. He stated, "I think it's a proper pan-Indian film, not because of the stars, the central character, or the setting, but because the story has a very international appeal. When Allu Arjun sir is doing the film, we can get whatever we need to shape it the way we want. It was very exciting to interact with him. The work is progressing at a brisk pace. We already spent three weeks in discussions with him, and work will begin in the second week of May."

The announcement of AA23, which marks the first collaboration between Allu Arjun and filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, has already emerged as one of the most talked-about film announcements of the year. Backed by Mythri Movie Makers and mounted on a massive scale, the project is being positioned as a landmark collaboration in Indian cinema.

The announcement video also attracted widespread attention, particularly for its background score titled the "23 Theme." More than a stylistic element, the music was presented as carrying a distinct message, further strengthening expectations that the project represents something larger than a conventional feature film.

Apart from AA23, Allu Arjun is also preparing for another major project with director Atlee, tentatively titled AA22xA6. The film will mark their first collaboration and will feature Deepika Padukone as the female lead. Earlier speculation suggested that the project would feature two male leads. However, the actor's team later clarified that Allu Arjun will portray dual roles in the film, significantly increasing audience anticipation. A special announcement video introducing Deepika Padukone earlier this year further amplified interest in the project.

With AA23 reportedly progressing through its early development phase and another large-scale collaboration already in the pipeline, Allu Arjun's upcoming slate is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious phases of his career, reinforcing expectations of two major cinematic spectacles in the coming years.
